LOD is accredited by ACCREDIA - Accreditation n.1744L - according to UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005 for the execution of tests for the determination of odour concentration by dynamic olfactometry.
Dynamic olfactometry is the only internationally accepted method for measuring odor concentration (European Commission - JRC Reference Report on Monitoring of Emissions to Air and Water from IED Installations - 2018). It is regulated by the EN 13725: 2022 Technical Standard "Stationary source emissions - Determination of odour concentration by dynamic olfactometry and odour emission rate".
The phases of the activity can be summarized as follows:
- Site inspection;
- Collection of odorigenic samples from the emissive sources (chimneys, biofilters, tanks, heaps ...);
- Analysis of samples in order to determine the odor concentration;
- Evaluation of results and comparison with the legislation.
LOD Srl carries out the odor's quantification present inair samples taken in the most varied environmental conditions. The samplestaken are analyzed in the olfactometric chamber within thirty hours ofsampling. In the olfactometric chamber there is a Mannebeck Mod. TO8Olfactometer, where there are four workstations that simultaneously allow theexaminers to measure them.
A group of selected persons (examiners) determines the threshold fordetecting the odor contained in the sampled effluent, respecting sensory andbehavioral criteria. The number of dilutions with neutral air at which the odorbecomes perceptible by 50% of examiners is expressed as an index of the odor concentration in Odor Units per Meter Cube (ouE/m3).
Olfactometric analysis are synergistic to the industrial research and development of any plant. They are indispensable for the control of odors both in plants subject to Integrated Environmental Authorization or to Environmental Certification, and from the point of view of art. 272 bis of Legislative Decree 152/2006. Through the olfactometric analysis it is also possible to evaluate the efficiency of the environmental measures of abatement of odors and obtain useful information for a correct management of a plant.
LOD participates in the only world intercalibration circuit since 2009, obtaining excellent results both in terms of repeatability and accuracy of olfactometric analysis.
