When it comes to industrial emissions, the challenge is not simply measuring. It is about interpreting data correctly, understanding regulatory and health implications, and turning evidence into informed technical decisions.

With this goal in mind, the EMISSIONI Technical Seminar - Impacts | Regulations | Solutions returns to Bologna, promoted by LOD, Gesteco SpA and Labiotest Srl (companies within Gruppo Luci), following the strong interest and attendance recorded at the 2025 Venice edition.

The objective is clear: to create a high-level forum where companies, professionals, institutions and the scientific community can compare approaches, putting data, monitoring and operational decision-making at the centre.

Environmental impacts and health protection: reading th data correctly

The first part of the programme focuses on environmental impacts, with particular attention to air quality and major emission inventories.

Vanes Poluzzi, Head of the Regional Thematic Centre for Air Quality at ARPAE Emilia Romagna, will present a contribution dedicated to the results of macro-emission estimates and observations of pollutant parameters in Emilia Romagna.

Next, Gaetano Settimo (Italian National Institute of Health - Istituto Superiore di Sanità) will explore the assessment of impacts and health protection, linking environmental monitoring with health risk assessment.

The goal is not only to describe emission phenomena, but to understand their consequences and decision-making implications.

Regulation and compliance: liability and legal risk

Managing industrial emissions requires a constant balance between technical requirements and legal responsibilities. Avv. Domenico Giuri (BM&A Studio Legale Associato) will address environmental compliance and legal risk, focusing on industrial emissions management through a preventive and organisational lens.

This contribution connects technical practice with legal accountability, offering practical insights for those working on permits, inspections and environmental risk management.

Technical solutions and real-world performance

The second part of the seminar moves to solutions and the actual performance of control systems. Prof. Alessandro Dal Pozzo (DICAM - University of Bologna) will present “Current challenges in emission control”, providing a technical perspective that links design, plant performance and sustainability.

This will be followed by a session dedicated to the Acquedotto del Fiora SpA case study, with contributions from Elena Iaiza (Gesteco SpA) and Manuel Bierti (Labiotest Srl). The session will show how data interpretation can be translated into an operational strategy built on integrated expertise and collaboration between different stakeholders.

Field experience: method, monitoring and sustainability

A central part of EMISSIONI is dedicated to field experience, with case studies that illustrate the full pathway: from data investigation and interpretation (chemical and sensory), to monitoring and treatment, up to integrated management with a sustainability focus.

Featured sessions include:

1. “From biogas to biomethane: a pathway of chemical and sensory investigations”

Beatrice Montanari, Air/Emissions Manager, HERAtech Srl. Technical note by Silvia Rivilli, Technical Manager at LOD

This case explores the role of chemical analysis and sensory evaluation in the transition from biogas to biomethane, showing how integration between analytical data and plant operations enables more informed decisions.

2. “The strategic role of odour impact assessment as a tool for prevention (ex ante) and verification (ex post)”

Emanuele Costa, Technical Director, C.A.F.A.R. Soc. Agr. Cooperativa. Technical note by Marco Pontello (LOD)

The session highlights the value of investigations and impact assessment tools as technical levers for preventing critical issues and objectively verifying environmental performance.

In both cases, LOD’s technical note provides a methodological and practical framework, with the aim of making each case study replicable in different contexts.

Our role: integrating data, method and application

For LOD, EMISSIONI is a natural extension of daily field work: integrating monitoring, technical analysis, modelling and compliance support into a coherent, multidisciplinary approach.

Industrial emissions management cannot be reduced to a single parameter or to a formal compliance task. It requires method, integrated expertise and the ability to interpret data in a way that is objective, actionable and fit for purpose.

A forum for companies, professionals and institutions

EMISSIONI is not just a seminar: it is a space for dialogue between:

  • HSE and environmental managers
  • laboratory technicians and plant operators
  • environmental consultants
  • control bodies and public administrations

Because today, more than ever, emissions management requires multidisciplinary skills and continuous dialogue between those who measure, those who control and those who decide.
