LOD at WME 2025: technologies and expertise for odor-emission control
From 10 to 12 June 2025 we will be at Waste Management Europe (WME) – one of the leading international events dedicated to waste management and the circular economy, at BolognaFiere, stand 136.
As an ACCREDIA accredited testing laboratory (n. 01448) and a spin-off of the University of Udine, our specialists will showcase their know-how in measuring, predicting and mitigating odorous emissions in industrial settings, with a special focus on the waste-to-energy, sludge-treatment, biogas and livestock sectors.
An integrated approach to odor management
Odorous emissions are increasingly at the centre of regulatory scrutiny by environmental authorities and of complaints from local communities.
In this context, LOD offers an operational model based on nationally and internationally recognised methodologies and a comprehensive portfolio of services:
Olfactometric measurement
We carry out tests in accordance with UNI EN 13725 to determine odour concentration (OU m³) by dynamic olfactometry. Samples are taken in the field and analysed in our laboratory. While this method is typically used for emission monitoring, it is also well established for product testing and evaluating abatement systems.
- Dipersion modelling
Using validated software, we simulate atmospheric dispersion of pollutants (chemicals, particulates and odours), providing reliable forecasts for impact assessments, new-plant design and analysis of critical scenarios. Environmental monitoring
LOD deploys electronic noses and sensor networks for 24/7 olfactory monitoring, capable of detecting real time fluctuations and alerting operators when thresholds are exceeded.
We are also accredited for Odour Field Inspection, enabling us to assess odour impact over an area and integrate results into GIS systems.Rhinanalysis on biomethane
LOD is one of only two laboratories accredited to conduct rhinanalytical tests required under UNI 7133-3:2023 to verify the odourisation and odourisability of combustible gases, including next-generation biomethane and hydrogen blends.
This service is essential for safety and compliance in renewable gas distribution and is mandatory for all plants connected to transport and distribution networks.

Join us at the Solution Theatre: odour emissions & biomethane odourisation
On Thursday 12 June at 14:20, LOD technical specialist Marco Pontello will speak at the Solution Theatre with a presentation entitled “Monitoring odorous emissions and biomethane odourisation: a case study”.
Starting from a real-world example, he will illustrate LOD’s services for the waste sector and highlight the importance of objective odour measurement and biomethane odourisation testing.

Participating in Waste Management Europe is a key opportunity to present our solutions to policy makers, technology providers, utilities, start-ups and trade associations, sharing ideas and technologies that can turn waste into a resource.
We look forward to meeting you at stand 136 during WME 2025 to explore our technologies and talk directly with our team.
